EASTLAKE -- Police say an Eastlake mother was arrested at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and charged with two counts of child endangering after police found the family dog attacking a three-year-old boy outside the home.
Police say the child was not hurt. Officers say they found the mother in a highly intoxicated state.
The mother posted bond and will be arraigned at 7:45 a.m. May 15 in Willoughby Municipal Court.
Late Wednesday, Eastlake police released a report.
It reads: On Tuesday May 1, the Eastlake police Department responded to a report of a child being attacked by a dog in the backyard of 900 E. 349 St.
CEI worker Steven Krotine was working in the area when he heard a child screaming. Krotine located the boy and it appeared that he was being attacked by a dog.
Krotine approached the fenced-in yard and the dog came up to the fence, giving the child the opportunity to run into the house.
Krotine tried to make contact with an adult at the house but was not successful, so he then called police.
The responding officers made contact with the mother of the child. She appeared to officers to be visibly intoxicated and she was subsequently taken into custody and charged with two counts of child endangering, a first degree misdemeanor.
The dog was a family pet and there were no injuries to the boy.
