GENEVA -- Last Saturday around dinnertime, a passerby reported seeing large amounts of blood in a creekbed and surrounding stones.
The blood was found under the bridge at Eastwood and Van Epps streets.
Blood drops and broken branches made a path to the street, heading westbound.
Police checked with hospitals and everywhere they could but found no victim.
Visitors to the waterway are concerned something more sinister than an accident happened here.
"We're always talking to our kids about being by the creek, due to just the drowning incidents, but you don't know what you're going to find, " lifelong resident Darline McGee said.
Police have closed the case for now. They are waiting to hear from someone who might have seen or heard something more than what they know.
