AKRON -- A group that helps thousands of local people in need everyday is itself in need of a handout.
For thousands of people across Northeast Ohio, Mobile Meals is the difference between having food and going hungry.
However, now it's the group that delivers those meals that needs help.
For the first time in its 41 years, Mobile Meals will launch fundraisers in hopes of gaining funds to pay its bills.
The group has relied on other funds and generous donors to provide meals to thousands of people, but the increase in fuel costs, combined with other economic factors, have left the group unable to keep up.
Mobile Meals will begin with a direct mail campaign to 5,000 people and will also hold a charity golf outing in late June, according to President and CEO Lorie Travaglino.
The group's website includes ways for people to donate directly.
