CLEVELAND -- The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner has identified the body of a young man shot on the near west side.

Police were called to W. 78th and Elton Avenue just after 9 p.m. on October 25 and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head.

The medical examiner says the victim is Demitrius Levert, 22, of Cleveland.

Police say their preliminary investigation shows the victim tried to help a man who was fighting with a group of five other men. During the altercation Levert was shot. The men fled the scene in two cars.

Officers recovered a handgun at the scene.
