FRESNO, Calif. -- Police say a parolee opened fire on co-workers at a California food service company today, killing one person and wounding three others, before shooting himself.
He's described as being in extremely critical condition. Two of the victims are in critical condition and one is described as stable. Police have identified the suspect as 42-year-old Lawrence Jones and say he has an extensive criminal history dating back into the 1990s.
It's not known what prompted the attack but workers at Apple Valley Farms in Fresno told police Jones didn't appear to be himself when he arrived at work this morning.
They say about three and a-half hours into his shift, he pulled out a handgun and began firing.
Police say about 30 employees witnessed the shooting, and there were a total of 62 people at work when the gunfire started. Police put Jones' home on lockdown and were searching to see if there were any other victims.
