CLEVELAND -- We know that too many children still suffer from bullying but some local young people are trying to change that.
Today was the the 2012 Maltz Museum "Stop the Hate, Youth Speak Out" event at Severance Hall.
There were ten scholarship finalists in grades 11 and 12. They were chosen based on their essays about hate and discrimination and how they are fighting it.
The grand prize winner was Gabrielle Jones from Cleveland's Martin Luther King High School.
She received a $50,000 college scholarship for her inspiring words on how she has overcame bullying about her weight.
The Maltz Museum "Stop the Hate" contest awarded $100,000 in scholarships and prizes Sunday. Winners ranged from sixth grade through 12th grade.
