AKRON -- Summit County Prosecuting Attorney Sherri Bevan Walsh confirmed that a jury found Doylyn Clayton, Jr., 19, of Akron, guilty of aggravated robbery with a firearm specification and aggravated robbery.
Clayton will be sentenced at 9 a.m. March 29 by Judge Tom Teodosio. He faces a sentence of up to 28 years in prison.
In June 2012, Clayton posted a bogus Craigslist ad to sell a 1985 Chevy Monte Carlo. He posted photographs of a car and requested to be contacted via text message.
Clayton listed his real email address and cell phone number as contact information. A couple from Portage County contacted Clayton by text on June 19 to see the $4,500 vehicle he was selling.
The evening of June 19, the couple drove to a West Exchange Street home where they met Clayton in the driveway of an abandoned house.
The wife had $450 cash (ten percent) of the vehicle's price. The couple was led to the back of the residence where two masked gunman emerged. Clayton also pulled out a firearm at that time.
They ordered the victims onto their knees, went through their pockets and then ordered them onto their stomachs. Clayton and the two unidentified suspects fled with $450 in cash and a cell phone.
Detectives were able to track down Clayton through subpoenas to AT&T and Craigslist.
Clayton confessed to his involvement but failed to disclose who the other two participants were.
