Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers designated
outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. for assignment and recalled outfielder/first
baseman Jerry Sands from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday.
Gwynn batted .232 with 17 RBI over 103 games with the Dodgers this season. A
career .244 hitter, he has totaled seven home runs, 22 triples, 46 doubles and
95 RBI in 605 games with Milwaukee, San Diego and Los Angeles.
The 24-year-old Sands had hit safely in his last 10 games with Albuquerque,
batting .476 with six home runs and 21 RBI since July 27. Sands hit .200 in
eight games with the Dodgers in May.
