Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Ryan Nicholas scored 22 points as the Portland
Pilots outlasted the Idaho State Bengals, 51-48, in non-conference action at
the Chiles Center.
Nicholas also brought in a team-high eight rebounds for Portland (1-1) while
Kevin Bailey chipped in 12 points.
Chris Hansen led Idaho State (0-2) with 15 points with Neveij Walters tacking
on 10 off the bench.
Portland held a meager 30-29 lead at halftime after connecting on 11-of-25
first half shots. Idaho State put in 11-of-23 field goal attempts but suffered
from a 6-1 deficit from the free throw line.
The Pilots were the superior team in the second half connecting on 47.4
percent of its shot attempts to 33.3 percent from the Bengals over the final
20 minutes.
Portland won the battle of the boards with 31 rebounds to 22 by Idaho State.
