Akron police investigating fatal crash on North Howard St.

Police say the driver was found dead in the car, which had hit a tree.

Akron Police say, they are investigating a fatal crash that happened Thursday morning, just before 9 a.m.

Police were called to the 1300 block of North Howard Street for reports of a crash with injuries. When they arrived, they found a Hyundai Elantra, which had crashed into a tree in someone's backyard. 

When they looked in the car, police say the 42-year-old male driver appeared to be unconscious. Upon further investigation, police determined the driver had passed away from his injuries. He was then pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Police say the crash may have been the result of a medical emergency, and they are still investigating what led up to it.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the driver's cause of death. The driver's name and other information are being withheld until his family can be notified.
