LJFF kids spend the day at the North Pole
The magic of the holidays was brought to life Tuesday afternoon as Akron students experienced the Polar Express aboard the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.
The LeBron James Family Foundation presented the VIP treatment for the third grade, Wheels for Education students with hot chocolate, cookies, a story reading and Christmas carols. The "I Promise Polar Express" was powered by the FirstEnergy Foundation.
"I feel happy because this is the first time I'm riding on the Polar Express train," said Ava, 9, of Akron.
More than 200 students, adults and volunteers filled up the train cars for the afternoon ride to the North Pole.
Each student received a bell at the end of the trip to symbolize believing in the magic of the holidays, a moment shared in the story, The Polar Express.
John Fitzpatrick, a volunteer as one of Santa's helper, said it's all about bringing the magic of the holidays to life.
“It’s wonderful to see their response, and the glow in their eyes," said Fitzpatrick. "They really believe in the magic of the season.”
The trip on the Polar Express is just one of several "experience outings" for the kids this year.
