Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens doubles staff
AKRON, Ohio - As the warmer months approach, many places are hiring seasonal workers. So how would you like to work in a mansion -- surrounded by beautiful landscapes?
Work is available as Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens doubles its workforce. History comes alive every spring as Akron's Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens opens for the season.
"Give tours, host events, weddings, parties and all those things and we need the manpower to do that," Sean Joyce, CFO of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens.
Staff numbers jump to near 90 at the historic home of Goodyear Tire & Rubber founder FA Seiberling. Tours of the home-turned-museum were voted #1 Home Tour by USA Today in 2015. There's a steep learning curve.
"Between our 64,000 square foot mansion and all the history tied to this estate, the property and all of our gardens, we want folks who are not afraid to answer those questions and who will be helpful," Joyce said.
But it takes more than tour guides to serve the nearly 135,000 annual visitors.
"We have 70 acres here to maintain. We have historic gardens, a lot of special places like the lagoon and a lot of overlooks," Joyce said.
Fulfilling the mission of any non-profit is rewarding, And Stan Hywet is no different.
"It's a lot of hard work, most people, their jobs are different every day, but that's the great part of working here. And having to show up here every day to work is not too bad, considering the environment, how beautiful it is," Joyce said.
Anyone interested in working there can apply online.
