Football tribute for trooper killed on I-90
AMHERST, Ohio -- A special tribute was held for 48-year-old Kenneth Velez, the trooper who was struck by a vehicle and killed on I-90.
One of his children plays football for Amherst High School.
Friday night, everyone -- including the other team -- was asked to wear blue in honor of Velez.
The father of three died Thursday after he was hit by a vehicle near McKinley Avenue in Cleveland.
Visitation will be September 21 at Lorain High School from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Funeral arrangements are still pending.
Velez worked out of the Brook Park post, where the American flag is now at half-staff.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, he was a father of three. He graduated as a member of the 118th academy class in 1989.
