LGBT Community Center announces new Gordon Square location

The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community Center of Greater Cleveland. Is moving into a new, vibrant location in the Gordon Square Arts District of the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood.

The organization announced plans to build a new facility on Wednesday. 

Officials say the new space will be accessible, visible, and welcoming to the LGBTQ community and those in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood.

The new modern center will have several amenities, including private parking and flexible meeting rooms, good for public and private events.

It will also house as a dedicated youth space, a Cyber Center, community areas, and public Wi-Fi access.

“As one of Ohio’s most prominent LGBT community organizations, and the third oldest in the nation, the Center works to enrich the lives of members of our region’s diverse LGBTQ community through advocacy, support, education and celebration,” said Phyllis Harris, LGBT Community Center Executive Director.

“We are embarking on the next chapter of our storied role in providing widespread visibility of Northeast Ohio’s LGBT and allied communities, and a safe place where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can receive support, services and the chance to gather.

The LGBT Community Center will be located at 6705 Detroit Avenue, down the street from the current location. This space is currently occupied by Mr Hero.

Several donors have given to the organization to help build the facility and pay for operating costs.

Construction is set to begin on the facility in 2017.
