Northeast Ohio polling locations moved due to power outages
Thousands are without power after severe storms rolled over the Northeast Ohio area Sunday.
The aftermath has caused some schools and churches to remain closed until further notice, due to damage and power outages. As a result, some counties are facing problems at polling locations.
Here's how polling locations have been affected across the area.
Paula Sauter, deputy director for the Summit County Board of Elections, says phones have been ringing all day with voters panicking due to Election Day being tomorrow.
The board held a meeting at 2 p.m. Monday to discuss plans for people at the polls and possible alternate voting locations.
After a day of discussions, here are the changes made for Summit County:
Reminderville Village precincts A, B, and C will now vote at the Reminderville Fire Department at 3382 Glenwood Blvd.
Twinsburg precincts 1-A and 1-C will now vote at the Twinsburg Community Center on 10260 Ravenna Road.
Twinsburg Township precinct B will now vote at the Twinsburg Township Trustees Office on 1790 Enterprise Parkway.
In Cuyahoga County, election officials are still assessing polling locations.
As of 8 p.m. Monday, there is one polling location in the county without power: Howard Chapman Elementary in Strongsville.
A Cuyahoga County Board of Elections spokesperson says the board is working with FirstEnergy to make polling locations a priority in restoring power.
The spokesperson also says voters will be notified before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday if they need to vote at an alternate polling location.
The Geauga County Board of Elections has announced four polling locations that have moved.
Bainbridge Township precincts C, E and H, will vote at the Kenston High School Auxiliary Gym. Power has been restored at Kenston.
Bainbridge Township precincts F and I, which were due to vote at the Centerville Mills Dining Hall, will now vote at the Bainbridge Town Hall at 17826 Chillicothe Road for this election.
Parkman Township precincts A and B, which were due to vote at Parkman Community House, will now vote at the Parkman Fire Department, 16299 Main Market Road for this election.
Troy Township precincts A and B were previously reported to us as without power. Power has been restored, so those voters will now remain at their normal location at the Troy Community Building.
The Portage County Board of Elections issued a news release noting two polling location changes in Aurora.
Voters from the 2-A, 2-B, 4-A and 4-B precincts, which were due to vote at Christ Community Chapel, will now vote at Harmon Middle School.
Voters from the 5-A and 6-B precincts, which were due to vote at The Walker Building, will now vote at The Bertram Inn at 600 N. Aurora Road.
Due to the Due to the electrical outage at Kidder School in Brunswick, the Medina County Board of Elections is moving the 3 precincts who vote at Kidder School to Willetts Middle School at 1045 Hadcock Rd. Brunswick OH. The three precincts that are affected are Brunswick City 1-B, Brunswick City 3-C, and Brunswick City 4-E.
FirstEnergy estimates that some areas will be without power until Wednesday.
