True2U Organization is looking for 600+ youth mentors!
Members of the youth mentoring initiative True2U will appear on WKYC's We The People show at noon Friday to talk about the impact and successes of this year's program. They are looking for over 600 volunteers to help mentor 8th grade students from Cleveland schools as they transition from middle school to high school.
Mentoring sessions take place at the schools, and are scheduled and monitored to allow for an easy and effective relationship between the students and the volunteers.
True2U is the shared vision of community leaders from The Cleveland Foundation, MyCom, Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD), Greater Cleveland Partnership, Neighborhood Leadership Institute, Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, and the Greater Cleveland Faith - Based Collaborative, Inc. Together, they recruit mentors from the business community, churches, and civic organizations.
Research shows that students are at highest risk of dropping out of school between the eighth and tenth grades. True2U is positioned to mobilize an extensive caring network of school and community resources to help participating youth acknowledge their strengths, develop personal and career goals, preserve innate optimism, and stay on the path to graduation and a fulfilling future.
