SANDUSKY, Ohio -- Thrill seekers will encounter something new at Cedar Point this summer before ever setting foot in the park.
New awnings with upgraded security measures have been installed just outside the main gate.
“The awnings will house metal detectors as a part of the ongoing evolution of our security practices,” Cedar Point’s Tony Clark tells WKYC in an e-mail. “It’s one element of a multi-layer security program, which is developed in coordination with local authorities.”
Clark said the security measures will impact every guest entering the park.
Cedar Point opens for the 2017 season on Saturday, May 6. Its expanded, rebranded Cedar Point Shores water park makes its debut on Saturday, May 27.
Park officials, meanwhile, have not provided any confirmation of the heavily rumored Rocky Mountain Construction upgrades happening to the former Mean Streak wooden roller coaster.
