Machine Gun Kelly thanks Cleveland in Billboard Music Awards acceptance speech

The Northeast Ohio native took home the award for Best Rock Artist.

LOS ANGELES — Cleveland's own Machine Gun Kelly is officially a Billboard Music Awards winner!

The singer and rapper took home the award for Top Rock Artist at the BBMAs Sunday evening, beating out iconic artists such as AC/DC, AJR, Twenty-One Pilots, and Five Finger Death Punch. MGK also took home the award for Top Rock Album.

While the award would have been enough for Northeast Ohio fans of MGK, the Cleveland native once again paid homage to his hometown, shouting out the C-L-E on his list of people to thank during his acceptance speech.

“To the city of Cleveland who raised a savage," said MGK Sunday evening, giving credit to the city he grew up in.

The rapper, whose real name is Colson Baker, also thanked his dad, his girlfriend-- actress Megan Fox-- and his daughter, all of whom he says helped him get where he is today.

MGK also had a message to the people out there pursuing a goal that they have been told is impossible, “To the dreamers, suspend logic and invite magic.”

The Northeast Ohio native ended his speech by saying that he will continue to refuse to fit the mold, "To the box that society keeps trying to put me in, you need stronger material because you can’t keep me in it. Love you all.”
