DETROIT -- The music world is mourning the sudden death of Chris Cornell.

The lead singer of Soundgarden died Wednesday night after performing in Detroit.

He was 52.

Just hours before his death, Cornell tweeted out a picture expressing his excitement to be back in Detroit.

“#Detroit finally back to Rock City!!!!” he wrote.

Several videos of his final performance from Detroit’s Fox Theatre have been posted to Instagram.

Sources tell our NBC affiliate in Detroit that suicide is suspected.

Cornell and Soundgarden were scheduled to perform for a sold-out show in Columbus on Friday.
