Kent State students mourn death of senior, Devin Moore

It's still raw. Now it's getting real.

It's still raw.
Now it's getting real.
Friends, family, fraternity brothers coming to grips with the fact that Devin Moore is gone.
Here, seemingly healthy one minute, gone the next.

So, on Thursday it was an open invitation to come to Cartwright Hall on campus, and see if praise really does help heal the pain.

This was the scene.

The sounds of the Kent State University Gospel Choir rose up, this time with Devin Moore in mind.

The Kent State senior, majoring in journalism, couldn't have scripted it.

No one could have.

Wednesday night Moore suddenly fell to the ground during a pick up basketball game at the rec center.

"The whole campus through all of this has had our backs. Like tonight. We didn’t ask them to do this. They reached out to,” says Rashaan Arnold.

He’s one of Moore's Omega Psi Phi fraternity brothers who were grateful for an invite to get their praise on in the face of such unexpected grief.

"He wouldn't want nothing else but for us to be turned up for him. So that's what we're doing," said fraternity brother Kendell Long-Wirt.

Devin Moore was a Beachwood High grad, where he played basketball.

At KSU he hosted a radio show and was just named Omega Psi Phi's 2017 Man Of The Year.

"Proof that he upholds the standards of our fraternity, and does well on campus in holding himself as a gentleman," says Long-Wirt.

Devin Moore’s mom, Christa Poole sounds so proud when she tells us, "In addition to being a leader on the campus at KSU, he was a driven student in pursuit of his dreams of broadcast journalism and eventually law school. He was a loving son, brother and friend to so many.
Moore’s closest friends found joy on Thursday at the end of a day that they had to dig deep.
“We’ve been talking about it all day. How we need to tell each other we love each other more. It can come for us any moment. None of us are promised tomorrow. Cherish each other and make an impact on this world," said Arnold.

Devin’s mom knows he did just that when she says "Devin made us proud to be his parents. He touched a lot of lives with an infectious smile and outgoing personality. People were naturally drawn to him but he was humble and responsible with his influence on others.

Fraternity brother T’Andre Perkins speaking for all of them there Thursday, when he talks about the legacy their friend Devin Moore has left.

"He's definitely watching over us right now. He lives through us. He'll continue to live through us,"
