TAMPA, Fla. — As 2022 wraps up, you may be considering making some resolutions for the new year.
Unfortunately, by mid-February, almost 80 percent of New Year's resolutions fail, according to the U.S. News & World Report. But that doesn't have to be the case for you.
After a bit of digging, we found three reoccurring tips that will help you keep and ultimately accomplish your resolutions and goals.
Change your mindset to match the goal
It's great to set all these goals and resolutions, but realistically will current work habits help your reach your goals? According to Havard Health, sticking to old habits and routines may make it hard to have enough energy for your new goals.
Begin to recognize bad habits and weaknesses.
“Identifying obstacles right from the start can help you plan and be successful,” Psychologist Susan Albers, PsyD told the Cleveland Health Clinic.
Choose realistic goals & resolutions
When your mind is finally in the game, begin to think about your goals — but realistically. There are many ways to set goals, but one method that stood out from the rest was S.M.A.R.T. goals.
S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym that was coined in the journal Management Review in 1981, according to the New York Times. It's a framework with five elements that are designed to help craft focused goals.
The five elements of S.M.A.R.T. goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound.
Celebrate the small wins
In the end, staying motivated is what's going to help you complete your goal. So make sure to celebrate yourself every step of the way!
Havard Health says to "encourage yourself to keep at it by pausing to acknowledge success as you tick off small and big steps en route to a goal."
