3News' Doug Trattner co-authors book with Cleveland native Michael Symon called 'Fix It With Food'

The book features recipes to help address autoimmune issues and inflammation.

CLEVELAND — Chef Michael Symon seems to have boundless energy.

When the Cleveland native is not on television, he's checking in on his legion of restaurants in Northeast Ohio and across the region, or he's giving advice on food on social media.

You might be surprised to know that Symon deals with rheumatoid arthritis and external lupus. His ability to overcome those conditions by using a food 'reset' became the inspiration for his new book, Fix It with Food: More Than 125 Recipes to Address Autoimmune Issues and Inflammation: A Cookbook, which was co-authored with 3News' Doug Trattner and released in December.

Doug Trattner was our guest in the Front Row on Tuesday and talked about the book with Jay Crawford and Sara Shookman. You can watch the interview in the player above.

In January of 2018, Symon revealed on his television show 'The Chew,' that he was utilizing an anti-inflammatory elimination eating plan to combat the pain of his condition.

The reset is simple: No red meat, white flour, sugar, dairy, or alcohol.

After completing the reset, Symon felt 'amazing.' He discovered that dairy, sugar, and processed flours are his food triggers, and that by avoiding them, his inflammation essentially vanished.

So he decided to share the more than 125 recipes he used to satisfy his cravings without aggravating his body in his new book. Some of these dishes include Ginger and Chile-Roast Chicken, dairy-free Mac and Cheese, Spaghetti Squash with Arugula Pesto, and Apple and Cherry Oat Crisp.

Symon also provides a guide on how to identify your food triggers and create a meal plan that works around whatever ingredient causes your discomfort so that you can enjoy incredible food without sacrificing your health.

In the meantime, Symon is enjoying his publicity tour, which features stops on the Rachael Ray Show, as well as Dr. Oz.
