The Food and Drug Administration issued a safety alert for possible contamination in a popular candy product.

The federal agency, in partnership Kansas-based 'Harvesters - The Community Food Network', said candy product Bibi Frutix was likely contaminated with an unknown chemical substance in early December. The candy, which is identifiable by its baby bottle-like design, is distributed by Mexican snack company Dulces Pigui.

To date, one report of illness has been reported. Harvesters estimated six cases or fewer of the snack was discovered at a food pantry agency in Wamego, Kan. on December 5. No further cases of suspected contamination have been found elsewhere.

Harvesters said the affected product could be located in the following Kansas and Missouri counties:

  • Kansas: Johnson, Wyandotte, Miami, Franklin, Douglas, Jefferson, Shawnee, Nemaha, Pottawatomie, and Wabaunsee.
  • Missouri: Jackson, Platte, Clay, Ray, Lafayette, Johnson and Bates

The FDA warned this may have been an isolated incident.
