Dr. Alex Johnson, President of Cuyahoga Community College, will be honored Saturday as this year’s Black Professional of the Year at the 36th Anniversary Scholarship and Awards Gala of the Black Professionals Association Charitable Foundation.
Johnson was selected as this year’s honoree because of his track record as Tri-C president. Foundation officials say he led the college to record numbers of graduates, by strengthening the school’s core mission of providing affordable access to higher education.
The gala raises close to a quarter of a million dollars in support of BPACF’s Scholarship Program and Youth Career Development Initiatives.
During its 36 years, the Black Professionals Association Charitable Foundation has awarded more than $3 million in college scholarships to deserving African American scholars, 80 percent of whom are first-generation students of higher education. This is in support of its mission which is to create opportunities for African Americans through scholarship, education and leadership development.
WKYC is a sponsor of this event and our reporter Hilary Golston will be emceeing the gala which takes place Nov. 5th from 6-10 p.m. at Landerhaven, 6111 Landerhaven Drive, Cleveland.
