PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio — A 17-year-old girl is dead following an incident Friday afternoon that authorities describe as a homicide.
The Portage County Sheriff's Office says the alleged killing took place around 4 p.m. on Knowlton Road in Nelson Township. Her cause of death was not specified and her name is not being released at this time "in respect of [her] family members and friends."
After initially being brought in for questioning, 18-year-old Zachary David Blosser was arrested for the girl's murder. His case will be presented to a grand jury and further charges may also be sought.
"On behalf of Sheriff [Bruce D.] Zuchowski and the entire Portage County Sheriff's Office our hearts and prayers are with the family members and friends struggling through this difficult time," Chief Deputy Ralph Spidalieri said in a statement.
A search of court records revealed no prior criminal history for Blosser in Portage County. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday and faces up to life in prison, if convicted.
