AKRON -- The Summit County Prosecutor says she will seek the death penalty against two men charged in connection with a shooting on New Year's Eve in Barberton that led to the deaths of two teenagers and their father.

Eric D. Hendon, 31, and his brother, Michael D. Hendon, 22, of Akron have been indicted on multiple charges including aggravated murder, attempted murder and aggravated robbery. The charges carry death penalty specifications.

The brothers face the possibility of being sentenced to death if they are convicted of a charge that carries a death specification.

"This was a truly senseless crime that has shattered a community," said Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh. "An entire family – including two children – was killed. And the lone survivor of this brutal attack will carry physical and emotional scars for the rest of her life."

Eric and Michael Hendon will be arraigned in the Court of Common Pleas on January 29. They are each currently being held on a $10 million bond.

Ashley Carpenter, 18, and her brother, David Kohler-Carpenter, 14, died after being shot during a home invasion robbery at their father's home on 7th Street. Their father, David Kohler also died of his injuries. A fourth person shot in the home survived.
