ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- A shooting suspect found himself in a standoff with police in Rocky River overnight.

It lasted for several hours as the suspect held up in a car in the back yard of a home on Colahan Drive near Mitchell Avenue.

The situation quietly ended around 9:30 a.m. Monday with one man in custody.

It began after police chased the suspect from an alleged shooting in Lorain. Police say they believe the man's actions stemmed from a domestic incident.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. near the Lorain police station. A pursuit through Avon Lake followed, resulting in Avon Lake police using stop sticks. The suspect drove his vehicle on three tires and a rim into Rocky River, where he got stuck in the mud in a backyard.

Two police cars enclosed the suspect and a SWAT team was called to the scene.

After an eight-hour standoff, the suspect exited the car and was taken into custody.

Neighbors were evacuated from the area. Some let officers use their homes during the standoff.
