At the time, the police officer did not realize that the Brook Park Police Department was just involved in a pursuit of the motorcycle that ended on Brookpark road.

The Parma Police Department officer began to follow the motorcycle and eventually turned on its lights. At the intersection of Ridge Road, Dave Merrick hit another vehicle and lost control of his motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was ejected from his motorcycle onto the curb just east of Ridge Road.

Merrick was unresponsive after being ejected, and the Parma Fire Department transported Merrick to MetroHealth in Cleveland.

According to the Parma Police Department, the man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Following the incident, Merrick was charged with Reckless Operation and OVI, and a warrant was obtained for Failure to Comply with an Order or Signal of a Police Officer.

The Parma Police Department said that Merrick was released to the hospital's custody for further medical treatment.
