BEDFORD HEIGHTS, Ohio — A Bedford City School impacted by COVID-19 has moved to virtual learning for the rest of the week.
Heskett Middle School in Bedford Heights has closed its doors through Friday, Oct. 1 due to a staffing shortage resulting from a positive COVID-19 case, the Bedford City School District announced. Students will take part in virtual learning through that date, beginning daily at 8:15 a.m.
Only one staff member working at the school has contracted the virus, but they were in close contact with a number of people, 3News has learned. The move to virtual learning for the rest of the week is being done as a precaution.
In total, the Bedford City School District currently has 10 active COVID-19 cases combined between students and staff members. The school district denotes cases as active for 10 days after it has been notified of the case. Since Aug. 1, the school district says there have been 57 total cases between students and staff, with 39 of them in students and 18 cases amongst staff.
