Kalahari Resort in Sandusky makes face masks mandatory for guests

Face coverings are now required for guests while visiting the resort, unless at the indoor/outdoor waterparks or restaurants, as of July 2

SANDUSKY, Ohio — On Thursday, the Kalahari Resort and Conventions location in Sandusky tightened their policy on guest face covering usage, making it a requirement for all guests over the age of 2 to wear them when outside of the waterpark and dining areas.

When the Kalahari initially announced their partial reopening on June 12, followed by their full reopening on June 19, the decision whether or not to wear a mask was left up to guests, as masks are not a mandated requirement by the state but still "strongly advised". Although some Ohio cities have recently enacted mask mandates, Sandusky currently does not have one in place.

"We’re closely monitoring guidance from the CDC and public health officials, and as the situation evolves, so do our policies and procedures. Since reopen, our teams are also actively listening to employee and guest feedback and implementing real-time solutions to keep health and safety our top priority," the Kalahari said in a statement in regard to the change in policy.

Physical distancing standards must also be followed by guests resort-wide.

The Kalahari's current health and safety protocol, including guidelines for employees, is available to read here.
