The changes will take effect as soon as Sunday, Jan. 31.

OHIO, USA — The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS) announced on Wenesday that it is currently finalizing updates to allow nearly 100,000 Ohioans to file for unemployment, beginning this weekend.

ODJFS said that, after service updates, the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) program will be once again available to the public beginning on Jan. 31.

The Federal Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 extends unemployment benefits for pandemic unemployment programs, specifically the Pandemic Unemployment Assitance (PUA).

ODJFS' PUA partner, Deloitte, says it plans to begin providing PEUC benefits for up to 11 weeks, beginning on Sunday, January 31. Eligible Ohioans will receive $300 dollars a week, even if they have exhausted the maximum 26 weeks of traditional unemployment benefits.

On February 6, Deloitte will allow for new PUA applications to Ohioans who had not previously applied for unemployment benefits. This will also include an estimated 155,000 PUA claimants who have been unable to receive balances on their account.

ODJFS says that it is currently providing unemployment assistance to more than 245,000 Ohioans.
