The recent Equifax data breach has 146 million people worried about the security of their personal identity, and the Cuyahoga County Scam Squad is warning scammers are going after the victims.

“One has telemarketers calling you pretending to be from Equifax, and they are calling to say they are trying to verify your information," said Larissa Bungo, Assistant Regional Director of the Federal Trade Commission. "Others are calling to try and trick you into providing information."

Some important things to remember. Equifax isn't calling. If you are a victim, you need to contact them.

In this case -- and every other case -- do not share your personal information with anyone who calls you.

Also, don't trust your caller ID. Scammers can make it look like they are the from the company.

If you have given your information out, or think you may have been scammed, call the Scam Squad at 216-443-SCAM.
