Akron: Lock 3 releases August event and concert schedule

From concerts to yoga, there's a lot going on in downtown Akron in August.

The City of Akron has released a schedule of events for Lock 3's Cleveland Clinic Akron General Stage for the month of August, and there's something for everyone.

2021 State of the City Address

Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan will present the State of the City Address from Lock 3 at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 9. Gates will open at 5 p.m. There will be a live performance by Umojah Nation at 6:45 p.m. Dress is business casual. Food, alcoholic beverages and parking will be available. Tickets must be purchased in advance HERE.

Fresh Air Fitness

Zumba classes will be held Mondays in August at 5 p.m., with the exception of Aug. 9. 

Downtown Yoga will take place every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Yoga Squared will lead the classes.

Thank Dog! Bootcamp will be held at 7 p.m. every Tuesday in August. This is a boot camp and dog obedience class.

Wednesday Summer Concert Series, Lock 4 Reboot Series at Lock 3

Wednesdays in August mean live music. Head to Lock 3 every Wednesday through Sept. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. for the following shows:

  • Aug. 4: We Funk Radio
  • Aug. 11: Tommy Lehman and Friends
  • Aug. 18: Willie B & Friends
  • Aug. 25: B-Side

Thursday Alternative Nights with the jenY 107.3

Every Thursday in August, there will be music with jenY 107.3 at Lock 3 from 7 to 10 p.m. There will be yard games, drink specials, music and food from NoHi Pop-Up, a carry-out, rotating restaurant from Akron's North Hill Neighborhood.

Rock the Lock

Fridays mean rock at Lock 3. Rock the Lock features multiple tribute bands. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the shows start at 7 p.m.

  • Aug. 6: Hotel California, The Original Tribute to the Eagles with Heart & Soul
  • Aug. 13: Full Moon fever, Tom Petty and the Haertbreakers Tribute Band with Ravenwood
  • Aug. 20: Straight On, Heart Tribute with Detention
  • Aug. 27: Simply Queen, Queen Tribute with Twist Offs

Saturday and Sunday Music, Events, and Festivals, all with free admission:

  • Aug. 7: Lock 3 is hosting a concert featuring Motown sound and more, by Akron’s ReaL DeaL. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7 p.m. with Forecast and DJ Mo Lee.
  • Aug. 8: Truth Mime, Living for God Mime, Humble Cry Ministries, and The Exalting Him Gospel Choir will perform at Lock 4 during Gospel Sundays, beginning at 4 p.m.
  • Aug. 14: Join The Platters with Jul Big Green on your Lock 3 Stage! Known for signature songs, “Only You,” “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” and “Twilight Time.” Gates open at 6 and music starts at 7.
  • Aug. 22: S.O.A.R. Gospel Band will perform at Lock 4 during Gospel Sundays beginning at 4 p.m.

Family Movie Night: Join us on Sunday evenings this summer and enjoy a special theme starting at 8 p.m. (or at sunset) followed by a movie. Bring a blanket, and learn about animals, dance, and more, while enjoying a movie under the stars. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

  • Aug. 1: Zoo Animals | Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted
  • Aug. 8: Sports | Movie: Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch
  • Aug. 22: Team Dance | Movie: Sing
  • Aug. 29: Akron Kids Museum Monster Mission Course | Movie: Trolls World Tour

Community Partner Movie Series: These movies are held at various City of Akron partner locations throughout the summer with movies beginning at dusk (approximately 8:45 p.m.).

  • Aug. 15: Akron Recreation and Parks at Reservoir Park: Water Safety | Movie: Remember the Titans. Enjoy a swim before the movie from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Aug. 21: North Hill Movie Series at People’s Park: Movie: Coco
