A passenger was killed Wednesday in Akron after a stolen car he was riding in rolled over and crashed.
Akron police say the victim was riding in the rear of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt headed west on Eastland Ave. Around 2 p.m., the driver of the vehicle lost control and drove off the right side of the road, striking a tree near Niagara Ave. The car then hit a fire hydrant and turned over on its left side, before finally coming to rest in front of a retaining wall.
The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy will be performed. Identification is being withheld at this time.
The driver (who fled the scene) has not been identified. Authorities later discovered the vehicle was reported stolen from Kipling St. on Tuesday.
Anyone with information regarding the suspected driver is asked to call the Akron Police Dept.
