AKRON, Ohio — A 2-year-old boy was hurt in a weekend shooting, which Akron police say happened at or near the Greenlawn Cemetery during a possible vigil in the 2500 block of Romig Road.

Akron Police say officers were called to Children’s Hospital around 12:42 a.m. Saturday in response to the toddler who had gunshot wounds to the leg.

Authorities say the child was treated for his injuries, which are not considered to be life-threatening. He was later placed in the custody of Summit County Children’s Services.

“The toddler was reportedly in the company of a 22-year-old male, who is described as an acquaintance of the child’s mother, at the time of the shooting,” according to a press release from Akron police.

Investigators say they’re working to pinpoint the exact location and details of the incident.

Anybody with information is asked to call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490 or 330-375-2Tip. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
