A suspect is in custody for allegedly putting a Canton police officer in a choke hold and dragging the officer with his truck.

According to police, officers initiated a traffic stop on a Ford F-150 speeding at the 1000 block of 12th Street NW early Tuesday. Police say the suspect, identified as Mario J. Pratt, 32, of Akron, refused to cooperate with officers.

Canton Police say officers Jon Eckelberry and Scott Jones pulled over Pratt.

After refusing to comply with the officers' orders, body camera video shows Pratt pulling Eckelberry into a choke hold and dragging him into the truck through the driver's side. Jones then attempted to use a Taser on Pratt, but it had no effect.

Pratt drove the truck a short distance while still holding Eckelberry, who was hanging from the driver's side door. The truck came to a stop in a nearby yard. Police fired a shot, which missed Pratt, but in the body camera video appears to cause him to comply.

Pratt was taken into custody and is accused of felonious assault and abduction. Officer Eckelberry did not suffer serious injuries.
