13-year-old struck by car during police chase on Cleveland's east side

A 13-year-old is in critical condition with head injuries after being struck by a car during a police chase on Cleveland's east side.

According to reports, the Thursday evening chase began in East Cleveland and continued into the city. The hit skip occurred near the area of Eddy Road and St. Clair. Police have confirmed it was the suspect vehicle that hit the teen, who was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. He suffered a broken arm, leg and head injury.

Police have corrected their previous reports that stated the teen was 14 years old.

East Cleveland Police report that the chase started when officers observed a vehicle with stolen plates. Their pursuit ended at Shaw Road and St. Clair. The suspect vehicle continued and struck the teenager, who was crossing the street at Shaw Road and St. Clair.

Cleveland Police found the suspect vehicle around 11:22 p.m. at the 2400 block of Baldwin Avenue. The abandoned car was burned out.
