CLEVELAND -- A 22-year-old woman was shot in the face after a reported verbal argument Monday evening.

Cleveland Police say the shooting happened around 8 p.m. in the area of E. 123rd Street near Ohlman Avenue.

The victim and a witness said they were looking for a friend when they were approached by the suspect. Following the reported verbal altercation, the suspect opened fire.

The victim, who was conscious and alert when authorities arrived, was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. Her current condition is unknown.

Officers later located a man fitting the suspect's description near where the shooting took place. A short foot pursuit sparked, but the suspect was ultimately arrested and a weapon was recovered.

No charges have yet been filed as the situation remains under investigation.
