The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for a man lost in the waters of Lake Erie near Bratenahl.

According to reports, a woman called 911 around 7:40 p.m. on Monday saying her father went swimming off of her boat, when he was hit by a wave and never resurfaced. He was not wearing a life jacket.

The Coast Guard continuously searched throughout the night Monday and into Tuesday until approximately 3 p.m. when the Coast Guard made the decision to suspend their search efforts. It was a search effort of over 20 hours and covered over 120 square nautical miles.

A crew from the Coast Guard along with the Cleveland Fire Department first responded to the call. A boat crew from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources assisted. A helicopter from the Coast Guard Air Station Detroit provided aerial search efforts after initially being delayed due to weather.

The name of the individual is not being released.
