CLEVELAND -- Is Cleveland close to hosting the 2016 Republican National Convention?

An announcement is expected Wednesday regarding which of the final eight cities in contention have advanced to the next round, which means a visit from Republicans this month.

It would be the biggest convention ever held in Cleveland.

The other cities vying to host the RNC include Columbus, Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City and Phoenix.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said picking a convention site is a "business decision." He said the most important factor is whether the host community can raise its share of the necessary funding. The second most important factor is efficient transportation and adequate hotel rooms.

Officials with each city were given time last month to make their case to host the event. Republicans won't make their final choice until late summer or early fall.
