Grand jury exonerates Cleveland police officers involved in Tanisha Anderson death

Anderson, 37, died in November 2014 after struggling with officers Scott Aldridge and Bryan Myers as they tried to put her in a squad car.

The two Cleveland police officers who took Tanisha Anderson into custody before her death were exonerated by a grand jury Friday.

Anderson, 37, died in November 2014 after struggling with officers Scott Aldridge and Bryan Myers as they tried to put her in a squad car. They had been called to her house after her family called 911 in concern for her mental health.

She lost consciousness and died at the Cleveland Clinic.

The grand jury's investigation included the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner ruling that Anderson's death was a homicide caused by "sudden death associated with physical restraint." The medical examiner's report also noted that Anderson's diagnoses of heart disease and bipolar disorder were factors in her death.

Anderson's family reached a $2.25 million settlement with the city.

The Special Prosecutor Section of the Ohio Attorney General's Office put out the following memo after the grand jury's exoneration ruling:
