A man will spend at least four decades behind bars after pleading guilty to a 2015 aggravated murder charge Thursday.

Ronald Yates, 28, attempted to rob Roderick Redwine, 40, outside Deep's State Liquor on Central Ave. in Cleveland. After Redwine attempted to fight back, Yates punched him in the face and fatally shot him in the chest before fleeing with his wallet.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley says Yates also pleaded guilty to 12 other robberies committed in the Fall of 2015. Yates received life in prison for his crimes, although he will be eligible for parole after 42 years.

“Cleveland streets are much safer with this conviction,” O’Malley said in a statement.
