Police have confirmed a man was struck and killed by a train on Cleveland's west side early Tuesday morning.

Authorities say the still unidentified man, who appeared to be in his 50s, was walking on the Norfolk Southern track near W 95th St. when the train approached from behind him around 9 a.m. The driver of the locomotive applied the brakes and sounded the horn, but the man did not respond and was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner is now working to determine the man's identity.
