Early morning SWAT situation in Westlake ends without injuries

The suspect faces charges of domestic violence.

Police in Westlake managed to safely end a SWAT Team situation early Saturday morning after a man allegedly threatened his family with a gun.

Authorities say a man visiting from Virginia called 911 around 12:30 a.m. and claimed his 33-year-old brother Ramone Boyd was drunk and acting irrationally inside his own Wyndgate Court home. The caller can be heard on 911 saying Boyd was referencing using firearms.

Officers arrived on-scene and evacuated Boyd's brother and sister from the home, along with residents of two neighboring houses. Boyd's 52-year-old mother remained inside, locking herself in a bathroom after she was too afraid to come out.

SWAT crews were later activated and managed to talk the mother out at 3:18 a.m. After attempted negotiations with Boyd, the team entered the home just over an hour later, where Boyd gave himself up without incident. While he never brandished a firearm, a .22 caliber rifle was apparently recovered from inside, along with a 9 mm handgun from Boyd's car. The home was also in "disarray," with smashed dishes and overturned furniture.

Boyd is currently in custody and facing a charge of domestic violence through threats, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
