CLEVELAND -- Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald, Thriving Communities Institute Director Jim Rokakis, and Vacant and Abandoned Property Action Council Chair Frank Ford joined Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty and other area advocates in announcing their support for new Cuyahoga County legislation that will establish a fund to support the demolition of abandoned and blighted homes.

They held a news conference at 9816 Cudell Avenue in Cleveland, one of as many as 15,000 blighted properties estimated to exist in Cuyahoga County today.

During his State of the County address, FitzGerald announced that he had instructed his staff to identify additional bonding capacity to support $50 million in funding for demolition of abandoned and blighted structures that place a strain on county neighborhoods.

FitzGerald will introduce legislation to establish this fund during Tuesday's County Council meeting.
