MAPLE HEIGHTS -- Police are investigating the murder of a gas station clerk late Monday.

Authorities were alerted to the situation when a customer of the Prime Station in the 14100 block of Granger Road in Maple Heights called police to report the employee was passed out behind the counter.

Officers responded to the scene shortly before 11 p.m. and gained access to the secured counter area and found the man had been shot.

The victim, identified as 41-year-old Kumer Saha of Parma, later died at Metro Hospital.

Police say the suspect pulled a small black handgun and shot the clerk at close range before fleeing the store westbound.

The suspect was wearing a gray hoodie with white tie strings, blue jeans, red boxer shorts, tan boots and black gloves. Authorities say the hoodie was cinched up tight around his face. He is described as a black male with a slim build.

Police are also seeking a potential witness who was at a gas pump as the suspect fled the crime. The vehicle this person was driving is described as a midsize, silver two-door sedan with a purple or dark-colored front fenders and hood. The male driving the vehicle had been in the station just prior to the shooting, police say. He reportedly made a small purchase inside.

As the shooting suspect fled on foot, police say the witness traveled eastbound on Granger Road at a "high rate of speed."
