A dog from Westlake must have been on quite the journey in the last two weeks.

The family of Pepper the dog had been looking for her since March, when she ran away from their Westlake home on Canterbury Road.

Saturday afternoon, they got a long-anticipated call from the Bay Village Fire Department. They had found Pepper along the Lake Erie shoreline, off Lakeview Drive.

The fire department says residents along the road had seen the dog over the past few days.

Bay Village crews went out on foot, and sent out a water rescue boat to lure Pepper to safety. She was rescued without any problems, and reunited with her owners at the Avon Lake Animal Clinic.

Pepper has some minor injuries on her feet, and was slightly malnourished, but the vet says she’ll be back to her old self in no time.
