Police in Fairview Park have arrested the man believed to be responsible for a series of package thefts that had been taken from residents beginning last December.

33-year-old Joseph Jones was taken into custody on Wednesday morning. He was found asleep inside his white Chevy Impala, parked in the picnic area of the Cleveland Metroparks.

According to Fairview Park Police Lt. Paul Shepard, after complaints came in about the missing packages, officers began to notice discarded boxes located in the trash dumpsters of area businesses. Surveillance video caught the Impala and officers from Fairview Park, Olmsted Falls, and Parma Heights identified Jones as the suspected thief.

In recent days, rangers from the Cleveland Metroparks notified Fairview Park Police that discarded boxes from stolen packages were found in a picnic area. A vehicle matching Jones' Impala had been seen in the area where the boxes were dumped.

Jones was being held at the Fairview Park Police Department until his appearance in Rocky River Municipal Court.
