MAPLE HEIGHTS -- Stafford Pool opened to much fanfare in 2009 with new water slides and a kiddie pool, but now because of budget problems it will be closed this summer.

"We have no choice, we are getting no help," says Mayor Jeff Lansky. It will cost the city about $75,000 to open the pool, and the city says it already has a deficit and can't afford it.

For residents, closing the pool is a disappointment for the summer.

"It seems like a big waste of money to have it and not open it," says Brandon Coles.

Other cities have been faced with the same dilemma in Northeast Ohio.

South Euclid has decided to close only Victory Pool to save money because attendance has been down. Their other pools have been updated for the summer for residents.
