Former assisted living administrator sentenced to 3 years for patient's death

She pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and patient abuse charges.

MADISON TOWNSHIP -- A former assisted living facility employee was sentenced to three years behind bars after one of her patients died under her care.

Alice Ramsey, 54, was sentenced in Lake County Common Pleas Court Wednesday after she previously pleaded guilty to one count of patient abuse, a fourth-degree felony, and one count of reckless homicide, a third-degree felony.

The charges stem from the death of 85-year-old Mary Srpan, who was a resident at Hubbard Road Meadows Assisted Living, where Ramsey was the facility administrator. Srpan choked while eating eggs, resulting in respiratory failure.

Police reports show numerous complaints of misconduct, abuse and neglect that occurred the month Srpan died.
